well the problem with acquiring the #4 overall pick with the goal of drafting Cooley is that he'll be gone by the 3rd overall pick

How much are they gonna "fine" their next one? $1000? $10000?

The Penguins have the 21st pick in the draft....that, and what else on their roster or in their system would get Seattle to even think about such a trade? Malkin and Letang are UFA's. That leaves....Crosby. I am not sure beyond Crosby they have any assets for which I'd make that trade.

Rumor indeed.

Obviously the Penguins have to acquire the 4th overall if they want to trade it for the 3rd overall. Duh.

You need to have assets. Seattle isn’t just gonna give away the 4th pick to Pittsburgh so Princess can play with local kids. I would stop calling the guy at the local liquor store a hockey source

What I want o know, is what can the Pens possibly offer to obtain the #4 overall pick.

Aside from the fact this is absurd, there's zero chance Cooley falls to #4. I'll be shocked if he isn't selected #2 overall.

Next year's supposed to be a stronger draft. Seattle might consider next year's 1st along with this year's, or some such. Plus all the NHL GMs in this thread still giving Francis credit just to poop on Eklund.

But yea, ridiculous rumor. Any trade Hextall would make to get that trade would give up too much for a non-rebuilding team and would likely be a fireable offense.

About the only thing they could offer that Seattle would want is John Marino. Let's for a second put aside the fact this is highly absurd, John Marino + 21st overall for their 4th overall is possible, maybe another piece.

Still, this would be universally dumb considering Cooley won't fall to #4.

I have no idea how this gets done. the pens have no draft capital, a depleted farm team and not a lot to offer. Does Cooley last to #4? Unless the Kraken are interested in Dumo, and/or pettersson?? throw in mcginn?

They do only have 5 D under contract right now (oleksiak, dunn, larsson, soucy and borgen) and have $22M in cap space. They have 12 draft picks this year. TWELVE! including four 2nd round picks.

Crazy how many ex pens are on the kraken team: mccann, sprong, oleksiak, pouliot and tanev. GM francis, AGM boterill. AHL coach Bylsma.

Hextall would have to flip Seattle's pick to NJ which will cost him even more. Not happening.

He could fall. That's not the biggest problem here.

Only thing I can think of is if there are reports that Arizona will take one of the D. Nemec or Jiricek.

Still dont think pitt has the assets for Seattle to make that move.

Lmao. So basically pick 21 and another late pick next year? For #4? You read a lot of dumb things on here. This certainly is up there

Don't all of you realize that the Penguins need a center now that Malkin is leaving? Didn't you also know that the NHL draft is just like the NFL draft in that the player can step right in on day one to replace Malkin's production?...

Also, remember that they might need to somehow add a very very high 2ND 1st round pick to take a right handed defensemen to plug and play right away since, according to Ek, Letang with be signing with either Carolina or Tampa (per his last few posts).
